Special Opportunities for Children

These events and programs are designed to support you and your child as you grow in faith!

Special Events: one time events designed for children

Heifer MarketEvery November, First Presbyterian goes to the animals!  Children help to run a live market, filled with llamas, chickens, pigs and more.  In the weeks leading up to Heifer Market, we learn about the work of Heifer International and then on Sunday we help raise over $10,000 to support their work

Christmas StoreWe have a special store the second sunday of Advent for children.  For a $1, children can buy handmade gifts for family and friends.

Jerusalem Market: What was it like when Jesus was alive? On Palm Sunday the church goes back in time to find out!  Children (and adults) can step into a recreation of a 1st century market around the time of Jesus entery into the city.  Listen as weavers, carpenters, potters and more share what's happening in Jerusalem!

Special Milestones: important moments the church recognizes

Worship Time GraduationA special service in August invites new First Graders to "graduate" from worship time and begin staying for the complete service.  Graduates are given a special worship bag and Bible.

Communion ClassesIn the Presbyterian Church, children are invited to the table.  Parents are encouraged to help their child understand what that invitation means.  Once or twice a year, we have a special two week class that introduces children and parents to communion and helps them learn more about this sacrament.

Fourth Grade Bibles: In Fourth Grade, children receive a Bible to help them in their study.  Bibles are marked for each child to include special verses and stories. Bibles are received in worship.

Special Opportunities: unique opporunities for your child to practice her faith

Christmas Pageant With song and story, we learn more about Christ’s birth.  We share that with the congregation during worship in December.

Cherub ChoirPreschoolers-1st graders are part of the cherub choir. We meet each Sunday at the end of Sunday School and sing together.  The choir is invited to lead worship 3-4 times a year.

Acolyte: Begining in third grade, students may help lead worship as an acolyte.  Acolytes lead by lighting candles at the beginning of worship, assisting during the children's message, helping with the offering, and leading the congregation back into the world.  Acolytes complete training each fall and are commissioned for this service. Most acolytes serve from 3rd- 6th grade.

Camp Pyoca:  We are blessed by an amazing Presbyterian Summer Camp just outside Brownstown, IN. Every summer there are camps for all ages. http://www.pyoca.org/Find out more online.
